That Time of Year

14 Comments on That Time of Year

Funny how the holidays can sneak up on us, even though we all know they’re coming.  It seems as if a mere couple of weeks ago, it was still October and there was plenty of time before Christmas.  Blink twice, and suddenly we’re leaving town in two weeks.

Lots to do between now and then, including trying to wrap up a last-minute programming project, so I’ll probably be posting sporadically between now and New Year’s.

We’ll be here when you get back 🙂

It wouldn’t be a happy new year if y’all were gone.

Have a great Christmas – hope it’s a real break. Thanks so much for all you do! But because of all you do, I’m out of a New Year’s Resolution. I’m going to have to think of something altruistic now.

I love waking up on New Year’s without having to promise myself I’ll lose weight this year.

    Hi Tom,

I was just doing my usual daily browsing of low carb sites, when I found this article. Reading your post about the holidays fast approaching and then reading the article brought home once again the importance of cutting sugar out of our lives! I found this article on carbsmart.com : http://www.carbsmart.com/how-much-sugar-is-too-much-guest-column-by-david-wolverine-smith.html

    Thought you might be interested.

Yup, even if weight isn’t an issue, sugar can cause all kinds of other problems.

I’m considering eliminating my use of foul language as a New Year’s resolution, except it would decrease my vocabulary by 50%.

Would that be a low-@#$% diet?

“That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.”

Here is a little something for your readers to watch and ponder, although I am pretty sure it is preaching to the choir. 🙂 I appreciate the link above sent by Linda – have it open in tab to read next – so here is another, only on the best level/type of exercise….hint: it isn’t about running marathons.

I have intuitively kept my running (been running 34 years) to 2-3 miles 3-4 times weekly for years, despite friends telling me it isn’t really “running” and that I should do at least a half marathon. I also stop frequently to take in a pretty scene or to listen to the birds. Seems my intuition was correct! My intuition also told me years ago that sugar is pretty bad ….rock on intuition.

Safe travels, Tom, and a wonderful holiday to you and your family!

With my knee, my running days are over. Happy holidays to you and yours as well.
