I wrote a post on my other blog comparing climate researchers to the anti-fat doctors.

After recent events in the UK, we can add ‘Climate Change’ to the list of LIES:
[1] Animal fat makes you fat and causes heart disease.
[2] The check is in the mail.
[3] Climate change is real, a serious threat to our existence and a cause for concern.
[4] Economic recovery requires deficit spending instead of savings, investment, and productivity increases.
[5]“I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.”
Amazing how ANYTHING the government throws its weight behind turns out to be wrong. How the hell did we ever make it to the moon?
Paul
Amazing, isn’t it? But like I said in Fat Head, follow the money. The loons in Congress won’t let go of “climate change” no matter how weak or corrupted the evidence is, because they know what cap-and-trade really is: a big, fat new tax. They want that revenue.
I’ve been a global warming skeptic for some time, and the skepticism has just grown stronger with all the chicanery by the so-called scientists. I constantly take a beating when discussing the issue with friends and colleagues, as this has really become the new religion of the masses. An aetheist, low-carb living, global warming skeptic. The modern class-A thought criminal.
Before he died, Michael Crichton gave some excellent speeches about the global-warming religion. That was after he wrote “State of Fear.” He began research on that book as a believer, but was a skeptic by the time he finished. Unlike most in the media, he could spot shoddy science when he saw it.
One of his many good essays and speeches on the topic. I like this paragraph in particular:
“Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science, consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus. “
Honestly, I find that low-fat has more in common with global warming skeptics than proponents. Global warming, you see, is a wrench in the engine of our capitalist society which requires that we buy more and more STUFF all the time. To buy STUFF, companies have to be able to fuel their trucks and we have to be able to fuel their cars. If global warming is true, then we’ve got to stop shipping and buying so much STUFF, and spells trouble for capitalism.
Just as Big Ag doesn’t want people to stop buying grain products, Big Oil – and Big Business in general – doesn’t want people to stop buying gas.
I’ll be happy when we find an alternative to fossil fuels. But cap and trade is also turning into a big business, not to mention an excuse to raise taxes without calling them taxes. The profit motive is in play on both sides.
Brilliant… the libertarian/low-carb/AGW skeptic population overlap phenomenon is so awesome. Could make for a good Venn diagram joke. I became libertarian, low-carb and AGW skeptic at three completely different times in my life and shocked to find how many other people were the same way. Makes it easier to come out of the closet as an anti-state denialist lard lover!
There does seem to be a lot of overlap. Once you realize a lot so-called science is agenda-driven and that the government is looking out for itself instead of us, you have to re-evaluate a lot of beliefs.
"This movie is funny and entertaining and amazingly informative."
"Contradicts everything you've ever been told about diet and heart disease with true science to back it up."
"Funny and smart, you'll be hard pressed to spend a more enlightening 100 minutes, and you'll come away with more practical knowledge than a whole college course in 'convential' nutrition."

Destined to be one of your “classics”………great work, Tom!
Thanks.
